Permits

Seattle requires an electrical permit for every EV charger. A Level 2 (40A) charger at a single-family home needs no plan review and can be self-issued online through the Seattle Services Portal (SDCI Tip #132). Plan review may apply when fed by a service of 400A or more. Fees: SDCI 2026 fee subtitle. Cities outside Seattle use Washington L&I or their own departments.
